For more than two decades, Primary 6th form groups have had the option of taking an international English test by the end of the school year. In 2020, due to the scenarios posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the planned assessment could not take place, and in 2021, given the current situation, the Primary English coordinators (Profas. Laura Bouzas De Concilis and Gabriela Remedi Corbo) evaluated various international proposals, with the aim of once again being able to offer an experience that enriches students’ academic background.

After the research, the English coordinators chose Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) developed by Trinity College of London. GESE is an oral exam, which is conducted by an English tutor, and at present it is entirely online.

This year’s test will take place in the second half of November and it is optional, as are all the exams offered at Instituto Crandon. Preparation for the 6th form groups includes a Mock test which recently took place in the Secondary Computer Labs with examiners from the Dickens Institute (the local provider of the Trinity International Examinations). According to Profa. Bouzas, the Mock tests were a very valuable experience and the feedback sent by Dickens Institute will allow a personalised follow-up to be carried out by the English teachers until the date of the exam.
