Fifty-one students of Bachillerato Diversificado accompanied by a team of six teachers participated in an enriching international educational experience in Ireland last July.

The group left on 27 June for Edinburgh, the first leg of the trip. For three days (the first weekend of the trip), they visited the main tourist attractions in Scotland’s capital. The National Museum, Edinburgh Castle and Royal Mile were the favourites according to the students’ comments.

On Sunday 30th they flew to Dublin, where they stayed with host families,  and on Monday the academic segment of the trip began. All students attended the Young Adults Programme at Emerald Cultural Institute with participants from different countries (Italy,  Mexico, Poland, etc.).

During the two-week programme, different topics of academic interest and cultural broadening were addressed. In addition, sports and recreational activities (Irish music and dance, magic show) were included.

The stay in Dublin was enriched by outdoor walks in the city, a bike ride in Phoenix Park, the impressive views of the cliffs of Moher and Galway and the breathtaking musical Riverdance, at the Gaiety Theatre, which received a standing ovation.

The programme designed by the English Coordination and the teaching staff allowed for an immersive and international experience.

The group returned on Saturday 13 July to resume classes. During the following weeks, the richness of the City of Literature (UNESCO, 2010 *) remained with the group.

* In July 2010, UNESCO declared Dublin a City of Literature, an award that recognises Dublin’s cultural potential and international standing as a city of literary excellence. Dublin boasts four Nobel Prize winners for literature, internationally renowned universities, numerous book festivals and the renowned Dublin Literary Award.
